The main purpose of the European Organisation for the Exploitation of Meteorological Satellites (EUMETSAT) is to deliver weather and climate-related satellite data, images and products– 24 hours a day, 365 days a year. This information is supplied to the National Meteorological Services of the organisation's Member and Cooperating States in Europe, as well as other users world-wide. EUMETSAT is an international organisation and was founded in 1986.

To create the optimum conditions for the approval and implementation of new activities, it is important that EUMETSAT makes critical decisions in a timely manner. In this context EUMETSAT will continuously review the current procedures and processes to remain an effi cient organisation. The Secretariat of EUMETSAT will continue to improve its internal management system, with the objective of increasing cost-effi ciency. This will ensure that the management of EUMETSAT provides value for money in all the services, data, and products offered.

i-nexus was chosen in 2008 to support the corporate Balanced Scorecard deployment of Eumetsat. Strategy maps on all level of the organization have been linked in i-nexus and actual KPI Performance is tracked on an ongoing basis. The key benefits are improved communication and sharing of strategic objectives and alignement of all company improvement actions. The current EUMETSAT Strategy was approved in July 2006 as the third edition of the EUMETSAT Strategy. It is updated every five years.

EUMETSAT will continue to develop metrics to enable a measurable and objective assessment of the annual activities of the organisation within the overall strategy. On financial resources, the objective is to enable more to be achieved within the approved budgets, with affordability and cost-efficiency remaining as key considerations.
